When I worked at Home Group as a member of their marketing department, I was required to design and implement a full desk top publishing solution and to up-skill existing staff, as well as to recommend both hardware and software suitable for the purposes of producing in-house literature and marketing materials. I used PageMaker (the Groups existing DTP package), Freehand MX, Photoshop 7 and Acrobat Distiller on a high spec PC.
Coaching of staff was conducted on an informal one to one basis followed up with handouts. I encouraged discussion and input so that the member of staff designed their own program of learning.
My final project within Home Group was to complete an audiovisual presentation for a staff and stakeholder 'open day'. This was completed using a DV camcorder to film on location and edited with the software package Adobe Premiere. Director MX was also used in the initial stages of production, with a view to making the presentation interactive. However, I decided that a straight video format would work best in this instance and it was delivered on a large plasma screen to staff and visitors. The video was produced on DVD for distribution to stakeholders, upon request.
During my 10 months at Home Group I believe that I have had a positive effect within the marketing team, especially in helping members of the team to expand and enhance their existing skills through coaching and in introducing new techniques of sharing good practice through multi-media.
